Caters for boys and girls of all skill levels from the age of 8 to 13 (U9 - U13) plus a mini cricket section for children aged 6 to 7. Mini cricket and all age group practices are held on Friday afternoons from 16h00 and League matches are on Saturday mornings. Please contact the group manager for further details. An important message for parents of children in our Junior section. Somerset West Cricket Club is an inclusive and community based club providing equal opportunity to all members regardless of background or ability. We run the junior section of the club with the unique ethos of participation over performance. This means that every junior member gets a chance to bat and bowl where possible in league games on Saturdays. This may lead to losing some games that should be won but at least no-one will be standing in the hot sun all day just fielding. Far too many youngsters are lost to the game of cricket this way. Teams entered for competitions will be selected on merit based on stats from that season. So no matter how inexperienced or how capable your son or daughter is, they will not only get a game every Saturday where possible but they will get a chance to bat and bowl in a team environment. This is invaluable to their development not only as a cricketer but also as a person. Parents are respectfully requested to be mindful of this ethos when joining the club and to manage expectations accordingly.
